'Diesel Shunter`, again with the Taycol motor. These motors were modified by Cranko to suit his purposes. Economy was the order of the day, the shunter`s base was simply that of a goods wagon, with a steam loco cab mounted and a hood over the rest. The rear of the cab was simply wide open, no attempt to close it in, with the motor in full view. Dive was to one axle.

This is the mechanism Cranko used in some of the electric models.

The Mighty atom was a single cylinder engine, with a flywheel, was located in the cab, with contrate gear drive to the rear axle. Cab/firebox was easily removed by unscrewing a wingnut, to give access for lubrication. Tender was same as the first type steam loco. The `Mighty Atom` was crude in appearance, had neither throttle nor reverse, no exhaust up chimney, disc wheels (aluminium in front to resist heat), and was painted green all over with no trim. However all this was outweighed by one good feature - the all-important merit of being a nice runner, no fuss, a highly practical steam toy.
